Flag Retirement boxes
Once upon a time...
Back in May, a Facebook post, by Donna Harmon, was about flags discarded in the trash at the Gouldsboro Transfer Station where she works. The closest flag retirement box, sponsored by the Ellsworth VFW Post 109, was over 20 miles away at Marden's, in Ellsworth, Maine. We decided to research available flag retirement programs for the town.
We applied on behalf of the Gouldsboro Veterans Committee and Ellsworth VFW Post 109 for a free county flag retirement box but found out later it was for member (i.e., paid membership) counties.
A little more research and a viable option was found:
https://www.keeptidy.com/shop/flags-box/
Boxes range in price from $13.95 to 16.95.
We purchased two medium boxes and donated these to the town of Gouldsboro.
Those boxes were to collect any worn flags for Gouldsboro but we accept worn flags by anyone from any town. The worn/torn flags will be then picked up and properly retired.
Those two boxes are in the Gouldsboro Town Office entrance way and Gouldsboro Post Office public lobby.
